The pole plant does not turn the skis - it prepares the next movement. Small change, huge difference.

The pole plant is one of the most misunderstood movements in skiing. Many skiers have been taught to plant the pole and then turn around it. That description sounds simple, but it can encourage exactly the wrong movement.
The pole is not there to make the skis turn. Your skis turn because of what your feet, legs and body are doing underneath you. The pole has a different job: it helps with timing, rhythm, direction and preparation for the next turn.
